ABOUT

Seán C. Martin is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with specialist expertise in functional and epilepsy neurosurgery.

His specialist practice encompasses deep brain stimulation, epilepsy surgery, neuromodulation for chronic pain, and the surgical management of spasticity, alongside a broad general neurosurgical practice.

He trained in neurosurgery in Oxford, where he also completed a DPhil in Functional Neurosurgery and a specialist fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, before undertaking further fellowship training in functional and epilepsy neurosurgery at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Alongside his clinical practice, Seán has an active academic and research interest in neuromodulation and functional neurosurgery, and is involved in national collaborative work in deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, and clinical outcomes.

Outside work, Seán is a keen golfer and enjoys football and spending time with his family.

An active academic interest spanning functional neurosurgery, deep brain stimulation and neuromodulation, alongside epilepsy, spinal surgery, neuro-oncology, and wider neurosurgical practice.

Research has been published in international journals including Brain Stimulation, Neuromodulation, Journal of Neurosurgery and World Neurosurgery, and presented at national and international scientific meetings.

Research from the UK & Ireland National Neuromodulation Registry received the top-scoring presentation award at the International Neuromodulation Society World Congress, was selected as Editors' Choice by Neuromodulation, and subsequently named Paper of the Week by the International Association for the Study of Pain.
